The Fools

Yesterday was April Fools Day, and we celebrated in style! Here's the list of pranks Jed pulled on me:
  • Stuffed paper in the toes of my sneakers
  • Cut out pieces of paper to fit exactly inside my sunglasses and colored them with a black permanent marker so I couldn't see
  • Sewed my keys into my bag
  • In the car: Turned the radio WAY up, put the air conditioning on full blast with all the vents pointing at me, turned on the windshield wipers, and put a piece of clear packing tape over my seatbelt base so I couldn't click it in
  • Put salt in my toothpaste tube

Here's the list of pranks I pulled on Jed:

  • Served "cupcakes" for dinner that were actually meatloaf with colored mashed potatoes on top (I did that last year, too... unless I can come up with some other funny dinner, that will become the traditional April Fools dinner around here!)
  • Served "lemonade" for dinner that was actually lemon Jell-O in a glass
  • Made myself a "grilled cheese" after Tagg went to bed and offered Jed a bite... it was actually two pieces of sponge cake with yellow frosting in the middle that I browned in a skillet to make it look just like a grilled cheese. After I proved to him that the sandwich was edible by eating bites off of both sides myself, he caved in a took a taste. The look on his face was priceless! (And, although it was actually pretty yummy, he spit it out because he was expecting a grilled cheese and it really freaked him out!)

Tagg wanted to "play games" on us, too, once he noticed how much Jed & I were laughing together. So he and Daddy gave me a sippy cup for my drink at dinner and Tagg & I switched the label on a can of sauerkraut to make it look like a can of corn and asked him to come give me a hand in the kitchen with the corn.

It was so funny, Jed and I would automatically come up with a reason that the pranks would have naturally happened... "Tagg must have had a blast filling my shoes with this paper! ... Was there a really good song on last night when you took the Jeep to Wal-Mart? ... Did the canners mess up this can of corn? ... My keys must have accidentally gotten caught on this string! ... Are my sunglasses really dirty?"

Thank goodness for random, not-pointless-at-all holidays that spice up our life!

To Grandma McClure

Dear Grandma McClure,
Taggert wanted to do a magic trick for you, too!

In his words, "[I want to] Do the magic trick for her because we made a picture and made a magic trick for Gabi."

And he also wanted to say...

"Grandma McClure, thank you for sending me all of the toys for me in the mail."

The Magic Trick

Dear Gabi,

Taggert wanted to make you happy, so he did a magic trick for you and wrote you this note about it (he was trying to write letters). I asked him what he wrote in his note for you and he told me:

"I made some ABC's all by myself! They say 'I did a magic trick.'"

We love you and miss you, Gabi!!!

The Daddy

Taggert loves having the same Star Wars toys as his Daddy. They can occasionally be found lovingly setting up the guys and talking about how Tagg's are the "Same! Same! Same!"

The Great Things about Illinois

Jessica reliving childhood memories through our son:
(Even if those memories have to be censored ;)
Grandparents who make holidays magical:

Steak 'n Shake:
Family All the Time:

(Please don't overlook Grandpa Aug's little peeking bit on the right... We never know what hilarities are gonna happen when the Augs come around, but they never disappoint! :)
Chris & Gus:

Chris definitely deserves a blog entry, and the "Great Things about Illinois" post couldn't be a more appropriate place to do it, so here it is:
Chris, Jed's best friend from college lives in Chicago, so we get to see her a lot! The two play on an indoor soccer team together, which means they spend a day together every week! Chris came out to visit us right after she got a new puppy, Gus. Gus and Brigham gave each other a run for their money, but Gus is getting bigger and stronger and Brigham's just getting furrier, so the next time they get together it will be a different story ;) Tagg loved playing with Gus, too!
Taggert talks about Chris all the time... he knows that Daddy is going to "play soccer with Chris" every week and whenever he lists off a bunch of people (for example, everyone who uses the potty or everyone who is his friend), the only people he includes that aren't family are Chris and the missionaries :) We have always been so glad Chris is a part of our life!!

The Gender, The Belly & The Name

We found out that it's a...

girl!!

We're excited to see what a little girl will look like between us! Jed & Tagg have been saying from the beginning that it's a girl, and I do feel like I've been carrying differently this time. Speaking of which...

Top: 22 weeks with Taggert

Bottom: 22 weeks with our daughter!

I hadn't compared these pictures before now, and I was feeling like I'm so much bigger this time around, but I guess it's about the same! Maybe time is just going by more quickly because my days are more full...

Any name suggestions? Our favorites are Reece and Tatum. Vote in the poll to let your voice be heard!
By the way, 2 of my 4 best girlfriends, as well as Jed's best friend all have had a boy first and then a girl! (And one of the two remaining girlfriends already has a boy... when she has her second, she just might keep up the trend!) ...Now, if all of us could just live on the same block... ;)

The New Place and The Routine

On November 16th, 2009, Jed, Taggert, Brigham, Ammon & I began renting the first floor of a house, along with the unfinished basement and the 2 car garage. The picture shows all the rooms we've got, except for Taggert's room. (The reasons I didn't include his room are two-fold: He was napping when I snapped these pictures, and fitting all our stuff in this place has resulted in his room--which is at least twice the size of his old room--being half-filled with boxes and the stuff we don't want to get rid of but can't store anywhere else.) So, starting at the top-left, we have a pantry room with lots of storage room for food, one wall of our bedroom, the dining/library/computer/shelves and boxes room, the hallway, the family room, our one bathroom, another view of our family room, the kitchen, and two more views of our bedroom.

It's quite different to live in a much smaller place, but the one of the only reasons I mind it at all is because I was so organized before. Everything had a place, and I knew where everything was. !! It's a bit too crowded here to achieve something like that. And some previous tenant's children have literally left their mark (aka their names and other random things) on some of the doors. But here's a list of things I really like about the place!

  • The shower has a removable shower head which I didn't think I would love, but it's actually AWESOME for washing the dog and Tagg loves it when I take it down and let him use it to wash himself instead of a bath or a shower.
  • The kitchen has a little spray thing which is great for washing my mesh strainers.

  • Scorpions have been replaced by ladybugs! Yippee! (That is actually quite heartfelt!)
  • Since I don't have a dishwasher, I've learned how to sanitize stuff that has had raw meat on it (Yuck!) -- Jed inspired me to come up with my current method of boiling water on the stove in our tea kettle and pouring it over all the stuff that touched that disease-y stuff. It's also working great for cleaning out those sippy cup spouts that get so un-cleanable... I'll still use this method for doing that when we have a dishwasher again!

  • And, since we don't have a dishwasher, we have been really consistent about reading together!
  • Vacuuming doesn't take as long!
  • The moulding around the doors and windows is big and pretty, and the front door is pretty and vintage-looking.

So, we're having a good time. But my posts have been practically non-existent since we moved here because this pregnancy has wiped me OUT! Daily workouts from my first pregnancy have been replaced by daily naps... Here's my daily routine:

7:30am --Wake up cuz Tagg woke up. Knock on his door to be greeted with "Mommy, come!" Take him out of his crib and go sit on the couch to cuddle for a few minutes while we wake up. Usually we put on a movie or some tv to watch while we share a bowl of cereal on the couch.

8:30-11:30 -- Play! Tagg & I learn new words, new abc's, and new things about each other while we play, snack and take a bath or a shower/bath. His current favorite things to play with are his Star Wars guys, Legos, puzzles, and ladybugs.

11:30-12:30 -- Make and eat lunch. His favorite food right now is Scooby-Doo macaroni & cheese, which is stinking GOOD! :) (Any of these activities could be accompanied by random web-shooting ;)

12:30-1:15 -- Naptime Routine: Clean up the toys, go potty & brush his teeth, then run into his room to read a book and sing a song. The book is usually punctuated with a lot of Taggert-comments about each page, and the song is something that I make up by putting lyrics (which don't rhyme and which Taggert makes up and tells me beforehand--usually a story about something that happened or something we watched that day) to the tune of some pre-existing song. Lately, when I put him in his crib and start to walk to the door, he will say "Please don't leave, Mommy. I wanna show something really really cool to you." That something is clearly something he begins searching his brain for the minute he asks me not to leave, and it's so cute!

Pictures Taggert asked me to take of me coming to get him after naptime. Yes, they are staged. By a two-year-old. :)

1:15-3:00 -- While Taggert sleeps, I finish my lunch if I didn't get enough when we were eating earlier. Then I check my emails to make sure I don't have any hold that baby business to do. Immediately after that, I take my own nap! If I don't take one, I get unbelievably sleepy by like 8pm and I have to force myself to participate in the nighttime routine I adore so much! (By the way, this slot used to be filled with blogging. I am making a tentative return to that today, just cuz I got the blogging bug. :)

3:00-6:00 -- More playtime! We often use these morning and afternoon playtimes to visit family, to go to doctor's appointments, or to the library or the grocery store.

6:00-7:00 -- Make and eat dinner.

7:30-8:15 -- Another round of the naptime routine, except this one includes pj's and teeth-flossing. I didn't even consider flossing a two year old's teeth until I started noticing that they weren't really getting clean. So we started it up and he does great with it! (It encourages me to floss my own, too ;)

8:30-9:50 -- I do the dishes and clean the kitchen while Jed reads to me! LOVE IT! We tried to read together when we were first married because the idea appealed to both of us, but it never worked. Jed's voice is so soothing to me that I would fall asleep ten minutes into the book! Then we came up with the genius idea to read while I did the dishes so I would stay awake! Since then, we've successfully read the entire Harry Potter series and "The Name of the Wind" (which is the most amazing book! I couldn't recommend it more heartily!), and now we're on to "Angels and Demons." So far we've only read books that Jed has read and knows are awesome so that we don't lose steam and fall out of this fun habit due to a boring book.

9:54-9:59 -- (Yes, I mean those exact times :) Jed and I get snacks to eat while we watch The Office! They air one episode Monday-Friday evenings, and we really enjoy watching it together. It makes us laugh :)

10:30-11:30 -- We wrap up the day and get ready for bed.

Life is good! So I just had to document this routine because I adore it and want to remember what our days were like at this time in our lives! I love having such good things to count on every day and such good people to share them with.

The Catch-Up: Halloween, Love, Jedi Knights, etc.

For Jed's birthday, we picked up some sweet Culture Passes and spent the day at the Arizona Science Center! It rocked! The most memorable part was playing the mind game you see on the right. There's a ball inbetween the two competitors and each person puts a brain wave sensor thing on their head. Calm brainwaves cause the ball to roll towards you, and whoever gets the ball all the way over to their side wins. I thought I had this in the bag, but Jed put his mind to work and me to shame! Another family was milling about in this area and we decided to pit our kids against each other. Tagg had that ball rolling to him in no time :) ...I thought you got to keep the genes you shared with your kids, but apparently you actually do "pass them on!" ;)
This momentum ride was REALLY really fast! Tagg had a blast holding on for dear life as Jed spun him good :) Can you spot the two pictures of Taggert losing his balance?
After our day at the museum, we went out to eat! Of course the company was the best, but I must mention that their Cheerios were superb (especially when eaten with a knife and fork), and the evening was topped off with a fun, musical birthday call from Grandma and Grandpa!
My birthday present to Jed was planned-out dates for the rest of our time in AZ. This is one of the invitations I made for him. Our favorite of our outings was going to Westgate to people watch. We made a list of things to look for and got points for finding stuff like a couple holding hands, someone wearing a hat, someone with a wallet chain, or someone dealing illegal substances... (we actually added that last one after Jed saw it happen. Although we didn't have the forsight to include it initially, we figured he deserved some extra points for witnessing such a spectacle ;) As a side note, that was the first night I suspected I was pregnant; I got so tired I couldn't stand up anymore and we had to finish our people watching from a bench. Sweet Jed is always so accommodating! :)
Jenna and Cody drove all the way over from Yuma to take us out to the Cheesecake Factory for Jed's birthday dinner! It was great to spend time with them!
Yes, we did celebrate Halloween! Thought we could use a little of the undead around this time of year, so here we go! Tagg donned a Spiderman costume and went parading around Rovey Farms with his friends Derek and Morgan (the dinosaurs above)! I loved it that he was cool with wearing the mask (it really topped off those huge guns!) but couldn't blame him for removing it when he realized that there was no mouth hole for his beloved Twix! (See pictures in top-left corner) Grandma Kim and Packi sent Tagg a bunch of Halloween stickers, which soon ended up in their rightful places on our faces!

Jedediah made his own costume this year--he spent about an hour creating all these wounds from makeup and tissue. It looked real enough to earn him some serious stares and gasps when he had to abandon his post at the creepily decorated front porch to pick up his mom from the airport. I'm surprised nobody called an ambulance!

This is the sweet good-bye playground date Taggert had with Derek. We met him and his mom, sister, and dog at the neighborhood playground one day and exchanged numbers so we could meet up there more often! Derek is just a couple days younger than Tagg and it was fun to see them play together! We miss you guys!
Light sabers, always a hit around our place, took on a new form of excitement for me when I realized what a slower shutter speed could do for the photography experience! I love how you can see their cute faces in the big one :)

The fate of the empire lies in the hands of a ruthless, telescoping-light-saber-wielding Jedi. The force is strong in this one...

The Third Update!

Update #3!

We have been expecting our second baby for 3 months now!
I'm feeling good, the baby's healthy as far as we can tell, Jed's a sweet almost-Daddy-of-three, and Tagg is pretty excited about "Baby Reece." (Both of my boys are quite sure that we're having a girl, and Tagg is especially attached to the name Reece :) Taggert gives my belly kisses and is so used to the (albeit nebulous) idea of a new baby that when we showed him this ultrasound picture yesterday, he immediately said "Baby!" I think he expects the baby to come out of my belly button, though... which is quite alright with me at the moment! ;)
